Buenos Dias! It is another beautiful day in Costa Rica. We started off this hectic day with a fabulous breakfast as always!
After our delicious feast we began our journey into Santa Elena. The first part of the day was spent zip lining! With amazing views above the tree tops. Sadly we were going to fast to see and possible animals living in the trees. Even though it was a bit rainy and windy it was a great experience for everyone!
After this morning of excitement we quickly ate out packed lunches and headed into Santa Elena for some much needed free time and shopping. We spend about 3 hours walking around the city and taking in the culture. We also enjoyed some great local cuisine and coffee. The town has an amazing restaurant that encompasses a living tree with the canopy acting as the roof. It is an amazingly refreshing place to grab a bite to eat.
After we had successfully spent most of our money on great gifts for our families and especially ourselves we travelled to a local chocolate shop where we were given a tour where we learned the process of chocolate making and the history behind it. Also we learned that the cocoa butter that is extracted is not something that most would want to eat, but is generally used as a moisturizer most often called coco butter.
After successfully eating a large quantity of chocolate we bought some more and then began our journey back to the UGACR campus. We then ate an always fantastic supper. After supper we attended a merengue dance class where we were taught a few great moves that I am sure we will use some day soon! Photos to come for the dance lesson. Today was an amazing day with many great adventures and I can only wait to see what else is to come!
